Microsoft, SDT to host software development conference

Presenters include Gunther Lenz from Siemens Corporate Research; Jimmy Nilsson, co-founder and CEO of factor10 and the author of two books; Niclas Nilsson, a software development coach, consultant, educator and writer; and JC Oberholzer, SDT's software architect.

Lenz leads the global research efforts for software factories and Microsoft technologies at Siemens Corporate Technology worldwide. In his presentation he will focus on the work Siemens does in the area of software product line engineering. He will show how the company was able to boost the productivity of its software development efforts, based on systematic re-use and highly efficient software development automation technologies in the context of software product families.

Jimmy Nilsson's presentation will look at LINQ in the context of domain-driven design. Topics will include a discussion on what new capabilities LINQ can bring to the table, how code can become more elegant by applying LINQ, and whether it will make it possible for developers to focus more on the domain instead of the infrastructure.

Niclas Nilsson will offer insight into the differences between dynamic languages such as Ruby, Python and Groovy, and traditional languages such as C#, Java and C++. He will ask whether the claims that dynamic languages are more productive are really true, and if so, what mechanisms in these languages make this true.

Oberholzer is involved in all aspects of the development, maintenance and evolution of packaged enterprise applications at SDT Financial Software Solutions. In his presentation, he will explore patterns that provide a high level of functional as well as process flexibility in des igning OLTP software. Developers, software architects and development managers will walk away from the conference with more than an industry preview from the development industry's thought leaders. They will have insight into improving their design and development processes to meet the fast-changing needs of business in the 21st century.
